CE Series - Basic Process Principles -
Unit Operations
Designed to demonstrate how potentially corrosive situations
may be recognised and avoided. The equipment allows for
the simultaneous study of up to eight corrosion cells. Each cell
allows for the immersion of three similar test specimens.
Corrosion Studies Kit - CEQ
Two separate items of
laboratory equipment have
been designed to allow
measurement of molecular
diffusitives and, in doing so,
to familiarise students with
the basic notions of mass
transfer theory. The gaseous
diffusivity apparatus
involves diffusion with bulk flow, whilst the liquid diffusivity
apparatus relates to equimolar counter-diffusion.
A process data logger is available for the Liquid Diffusion Coefficients Apparatus.
Mass Transfer and
Diffusion Coefficients - CER A & B
The upward flow of fluid
through a bed of particles is
encountered in nature and in
many industrial processes.
The unit facilitates the study
of flow through fixed and
fluidised beds of solid particles.
Simultaneous study of air and
water systems demonstrates
the differences between
‘aggregative’ and ‘particulate’
fluidised bed characteristics
and the important
phenomenon of ‘bubbling’
can be observed. Close-up of
columns shows fluidisation of a
bed by air.
Fixed and Fluidised Bed Apparatus - CEL
Mixing of liquid-
liquid or solid-liquid
systems is subject to
many variables and
a complex operation
to analyse. This liquid
mixing apparatus
has been developed
to demonstrate the
factors affecting
mixing using
visualisation and
measurement
techniques as
appropriate.
Fluid Mixing Studies - CEK
Wetted wall columns have
proved valuable in determining
mass transfer coefficients,
essential in calculating the
design of absorption towers.
They serve as a basis from
which correlations have been
developed for packed towers.
In this case the absorption
studied is that of oxygen from
air into deoxygenated water,
which is produced by sparging
the water with nitrogen in a
deoxygenating column. This is
an example of absorption which
is liquid-film controlled; the liquid
film mass transfer coefficient can
be determined at various mass
flow rates of the water.

Solids Handling StudIES - CENMkII
The characteristics of the flow of solidmaterials are relevant to
many process industries, particularly in handling pellets, crystals and
aggregates. The newCEN-MkII system is available as three separate
items, namely:
CEN-MkII-11 Solids Handling incorporating Ball mill and V blender
CEN-MkII-12 Powder Handling incorporating angle of repose cylinder,
cylindrical hopper with orifices and pneumatic
conveyor with cyclone
CEN-MkII-13 Variable intensity Vibratory Shaker and Sieves
